FORT LAUDERDALE POLICE OFFICERS FOUNDATION
Chairman's Message
I extend warm greetings to you on behalf of the Fort Lauderdale Police Officers Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization (EIN 83-2909957) dedicated to upholding the legacy of our former FOP President, the late Sergeant Jack Lokeinsky. Jack’s courageous battle with cancer serves as a beacon guiding our mission to cultivate a stronger community and effect meaningful change.
At the heart of the Fort Lauderdale Police Officer Foundation lies our commitment to the ethos of “Connecting While Protecting.” We steadfastly pursue this vision through two core initiatives:
Assisting Law Enforcement Officers in Their Time of Need: In moments of adversity, it is paramount that our officers feel supported. Through our “Protect Those Who Protect Us” program, generously fueled by donations such as yours, we aid officers and their families facing challenges from illness, injury, or military service, particularly during the holiday season.
Promoting and Supporting the Community: We believe in the transformative power of personal connections and actively engage with our communities beyond the realm of law enforcement.
Our initiatives include:
Backpack Giveaway: Supporting youth by furnishing them with essential school supplies.
Santa Stop/Shop with a Cop/Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway: Assisting families in providing meals and gifts to children who may otherwise go without.
Fort Lauderdale FOP “Connecting While Protecting” Reading Program: An impactful program focused on learning and character building, one page at a time.
To establish consistency, we committed to coming and reading every other week from the start of the school year to the end. The kids saw the same two officers as the program progressed, and a connection developed.
The program utilizes character development books, focusing on virtues such as Commitment, Honesty, Courage, Respect, and Tolerance. After each reading session, students author a book report, earning a stamp in their “reading passport.” Completing all program assignments earns students a well-deserved “prize” presented at the program’s graduation ceremony in June. Notably, the last graduation ceremony featured the distribution of Amazon Kindle E-readers to each student, providing access to a vast array of books through Broward County’s library system.
One teacher proudly reported the following:
My FSA Reading scores for this year were even better than last year!
20 students were assessed.
95% of my students passed.
45% of my students were proficient.
